An international competition created to accelerate the development of ice hockey throughout the Balkan region, and to offer players, clubs and supporters a more competitive platform.
The Balkan Hockey League is a cross-border competition contested by clubs from Serbia, Bulgaria and North Macedonia. It was announced in 2026 with three founding clubs, one from each member nation.
The region has attempted this once before. A four-team Balkan Ice Hockey League ran for the 2015/16 season and was won by HK Spartak Subotica before it folded. This competition is being built with the same ambition and a longer horizon.
Games are played to IIHF competition rules rather than North American convention: three points for a regulation win, three-on-three overtime, and a five-round shootout where overtime settles nothing.
